White Alice Communications System, HAER No. AK-23 (Historic American Engineering Record)

Source Metadata

The Section 106 documentation written when the Air Force needed to demolish its White Alice stations: a 46-page system history plus station-by-station records. Supplies the WECO contract (1955), the first stations (Boswell Bay and Neklasson Lake, 1956), the $38 million estimate that became $113 million for phase one, the 1.5 million circuit-miles figure, the Alaska Communications Disposal Act (1967) and RCA/Alascom transfer, and the closure dates. Its station count (31 original, “original 33” in one passage) differs from other accounts - we carry the disagreement in footnotes.
