Pioneers of Soviet Computing (Malinovsky, English edition 2010)

The English edition (SIGCIS, 2010) of Malinovsky’s 1995 history of Soviet computing, whose chapter ‘The Founder of Non-Traditional Computer Arithmetic’ (pp. 138-143) is the closest thing to Akushsky’s own memoir: Malinovsky knew him personally in the 1970s-80s, visited his home, and quotes him at length - the 1942 letter stalling IBM, the Lubyanka night and the 180th-meridian correction, the Zhdanov conversation that sent him to Kazakhstan, and the account of his death in April 1992. Because most of it is Akushsky’s own telling, this site labels its unique anecdotes as such rather than as independently verified fact.
