A Freedom of Information Act release from U.S. Northern Command (case 26-R-025, granted 27 April 2026) of 2,443 photographs, maps and graphics from NORAD/CONAD/ADC historical holdings, requested for the period 1951-1974. USNORTHCOM determined the records “fully releasable.” The release is effectively NORAD’s Public Affairs historical picture library and reaches well beyond the requested date range: period radar-station photographs (including a dated 1960 shot of RCAF Station Parent and 1950s Canadian radar-operator portraits), NORAD strategic-defence maps, plotting-room and SAGE-era images, BOMARC/Nike/BMEWS/DEW/PAVE PAWS material, and Soviet bomber-intercept photographs. Rights vary by image: works of the U.S. government are public domain; Canadian RCAF/National Defence Image Library photographs are Crown copyright, expired for pre-1975 material.
